Ballymena – The City of the Seven Towers, and a shedload of motorhomes! Yes, the merry Ramblers came to Mid-Antrim and our venue at Eaton Park - Home of Ballymena RFC.
With a heartsome setting, river walk and easy dander in either direct to the plentiful shops of Ballymena, or the garden village of Broughshane, this really is a splendid location. Not only that, home to more than few of our members as well.
Opting for a laid-back meet on this occasion, leisure-seeking members headed pitch-side at 3pm and relaxed into the weekend. With the Clubhouse available too, we headed over to for an evening pint and a chat, while our in-house DJ’s provided the usual background music. Our reputation as “the conversation club” continues!!
Saturday offered plenty of opportunities to explore the local shops, cafés, restaurants and attractions, and members scattered in all directions to make the most of them. By late afternoon, however, everyone had returned to their natural motorhome habitat for the traditional decompression period.
You know, they say the definition of madness is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results. What a load of oul nonsense!! Over we headed to the Clubhouse again that evening, and lo and behold, yet another brilliant night of craic and camaraderie. With a double-header of Rugby and Football on the box there was plenty for sports fans too.
With the usual coffee morning on hold, Sunday rewarded attendees with the rare luxury of a lie-in. Gradually, members and then motorhomes stirred into life, chairs were folded away and goodbyes were exchanged as another successful weekend came to a close.
It wouldn’t a weekend of course if there weren’t a few celebrations so Happy Birthday to Alan Wallace and Roberta Little and an especially warm welcome to our latest members, Mark & Heather Allely and Jim Larkham & Jenni Stewart. Hope we see you again soon.
So farewell Ballymena and hello Portstewart, and our ever popular and fully booked venue at Star of The Sea Parish Centre:
Red sails in the sunset way out on the sea
Oh, carry my loved one home safely to me
He sailed at the dawning, all day I've been blue
Red sails in the sunset, I'm trusting in you.
