As the mighty Scrabo Tower appeared on the horizon, standing proudly over Newtownards, it could only mean one thing... another wonderful weekend with The Ramblers was about to begin. And, as always, members arrived full of enthusiasm, including plenty of new faces.
Waiting serenely at the entrance were our hosts, Isobel and Clare, whose welcoming smiles were as bright as the sunny weather. Meanwhile, Paul and Seamus busily parked vans in their designated slots, ensuring everything was ready for the action ahead. With handshakes and hugs exchanged, kettles boiled, and perhaps even a bottle or two opened, the event was officially underway.
Friday evening was Bingo Night, marking a welcome return to the ever-popular game, before Norman took over entertainment duties and played his hit list well into the evening. Sadly, the sunshine on
Saturday was of the liquid variety, but that did not deter The Ramblers. Members headed down the street to say hello to Paddington Bear, take a seat on his bench, and perhaps enjoy a marmalade sandwich or two. With hunger taken care of, there was also plenty of opportunity to quench the thirst around the town.
Before long, Saturday evening rolled around and the social scene sprang back into life. Members gathered once more as Joe provided the entertainment, treating everyone to an excellent evening of music and craic.
Sunday's coffee morning was the usual enjoyable mix of tasty treats and cheerful conversation as members sipped their brews. Joe took the opportunity to thank our hosts, Paul and Isobel, along with Seamus and Clare, for organising such an enjoyable and well-attended event. They certainly earned the applause they received, along with a well-deserved rest! Extra congratulations also go to Seamus and Clare, who were celebrating their 55th wedding anniversary.
A very warm welcome was extended to our newest members who joined us this weekend: Paul and Amelia, Robbie and Joy, and Janet, along with Jack, Erin and Alyssa, who was also celebrating her birthday. A special mention goes to The McQuiston Family who were taking to the road in their new van. And so, another memorable weekend came to a close.
now our compass points west towards an exciting new Ramblers venue at Sperrin Integrated College in Magherafelt. See you there!
